VAT in Nigeria: what to know

  1. VAT is collected by the seller and paid to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS, the tax office that took over from FIRS).
  2. Whether a small business must register or charge VAT depends on the rules in force from 2026. Ask NRS or your accountant before you decide.
  3. Show the VAT as its own line on the invoice, with the rate and the amount.
